IRAS is pleased that more taxpayers filed earlier this year. 75% of taxpayers filed their tax returns by 1 April 2014. This is 4 percentage points higher than that on 1 April 2013.

The overall filing rate this year has remained high at 95%, with 820,000 e-Filers and over a million taxpayers on the No-Filing Service (NFS).

The graph below shows the filing rates in April of Tax Season 2014 and 2013.

More taxpayers used SMS Return My Call service

More taxpayers were using the SMS Return My Call service to request a call-back by sending an SMS to IRAS. By doing so, taxpayers saved time calling and waiting for their calls to be connected during the peak periods. Almost 23,000 taxpayers used this service, an increase of 77% over the same period last year.

Notwithstanding the increased usage of SMS Return My Call service, fewer taxpayers needed to call IRAS. The 230,900 calls which included the 23,000 SMSes made to IRAS this year, is 4% lower than the total calls and SMSes received by IRAS in Tax Season 2013.
