Tax on trustee
The statutory income of a trustee is subject to income tax at the following flat rate:
Year of Assessment (YA) | Tax Rate |
---|---|
From YA 2021 | 17% |
Tax on resident beneficiaries
Beneficiaries who are Singapore tax residents and entitled to a share of the trust income by virtue of the trust deed, the Will of the deceased or the Law of Intestacy must pay taxes for their share of entitlement of income at their personal income tax rates. They are also given the same tax exemptions and concessions as accorded to individual resident taxpayers.
For more details, please refer to Income Tax Treatment of Trusts (PDF, 251KB).
Tax on non-resident beneficiaries
The trustee must pay tax on the shares of entitlement for non-resident beneficiaries at the prevailing trustee rate for that year of assessment.
Example: Year of Assessment (YA) 2024
Trust/Estate income in 2023 | $6,000 |
---|---|
Less amount assessed on resident beneficiaries (2/3 of $6,000) | $4,000* |
Chargeable income | $2,000 |
Tax on trustee: 17% of $2,000 | $340 |
*Resident beneficiaries are assessed on their share of entitlement ($4,000) at their personal income tax rates in YA 2024. This applies even if they receive less than their share of entitlement.
