What is Singpass Foreign user Account (SFA)?

A Singpass Foreign user Account (SFA) allows foreign users to access selected government and private sector digital services in Singapore, including personal and corporate tax services on myTax Portal.

Who needs to apply for an SFA?

a) You must apply for an SFA with IRAS if you are a foreign individual without a Singapore Government-issued ID, and you need to transact with us digitally for Individual and/or Property Tax matters. This includes:

- Singaporeans/Singapore PRs who have renounced their citizenship/Permanent Residence

- Former FIN holders who have cancelled their work pass

- Foreigners with an existing IRAS Tax reference number (e.g., A1234567A)

For Corppass users (including Tax Agents) handling business tax matters, an SFA will be issued automatically by Corppass when you apply for a Corppass user account. In this case, there is no need to apply for an SFA separately with IRAS.

How to Apply for an SFA?

Complete the application form to apply for an SFA. Before you begin, please ensure you have the following prepared:

   a. Your National ID (e.g., Malaysian IC, National Identity Card). If unavailable, a passport document with at least 6 months validity.

   b. A valid email address. Your SFA ID will be sent to this email upon successful processing.

      - Ensure you can access the email inbox before proceeding.

      - Verify that the email address has not been used for previous SFA applications or registered with Singpass.

   c. Your existing/previous tax reference number with IRAS, if any (e.g., A1234567A, G1234567X, S1234567D).

The new SFA account has to be activated within 90 days from date of issuance. Otherwise, the account will be terminated by Singpass, and you will need to reapply for a new SFA account with IRAS.

FAQs

A. SFA Application

1. I have renounced my Singapore citizenship/Permanent Residence or my FIN has expired. Which tax reference number should I use in the Singpass Foreign Account (SFA) application form?

You should still enter the NRIC or FIN that was previously issued to you when filling out the application form, even if it is no longer valid.

2. Can both my spouse and I use the same email address when applying for our Singpass Foreign User Accounts?

No, each applicant must use a unique email address that was not used for Singpass or IRAS Unique Account when applying for their own Singpass Foreign Account (SFA). You and your spouse will need to provide separate email addresses for your individual applications.

3. What can I expect after submitting my SFA application?

You can expect to receive the activation email within 10 working days. Please do check your email’s junk or spam folder as well. If you still do not receive the activation email, you may contact Singpass for assistance.

4. Do I have to re-apply for a SFA with IRAS to login myTax Portal if I have been issued with a SFA by another agency?

SFA can be issued by different SFA organisations (e.g. Corppass). SFA can only be used to access the digital services of the SFA organisation that issued the account to you.

If you have a SFA ID issued by another SFA organisation and you wish to access IRASʼ digital services for Individual and/or Property Tax matters, please complete the application form and indicate your existing SFA ID (e.g. Y1234567A).

You also need to attach the same Foreign ID document (e.g. Passport document or National ID) that was submitted to the other SFA organisation.

B. Unable to log in to myTax Portal

1. I do not recall my SFA User ID i.e., Y-series no.

You may retrieve your SFA User ID (e.g., Y1234567C) here.

2. I am unable to access myTax Portal after setting up my SFA.

Please allow one working day for the system to sync your details before logging in.

3. I am not able to log into myTax Portal using the issued SFA.

Please consider the following:

a. SFA Activation: Ensure that you have activated your SFA within 90 days from the date of issuance. Otherwise, the account will be terminated by Singpass and you will need to resubmit a new application with us.

b. Validity of Official Document: Check that the official document used for your SFA application is not expired nor due to expire within the next six months. If it has expired or is nearing expiry, submit a new application with your renewed document. When applying, select "Updating of expiring/expired official identification document(s)" as your Reason for Application.
